Longines is a watch brand, originally a company founded by Auguste Agassiz at Saint-Imier, Switzerland in 1832. Its origins can be traced back to the 1830s and it currently holds the oldest registered logo for a watch company (a winged hourglass).
For generations now, Longines’ reputation, prestige and confirmed quality have attracted a growing number of world personalities – heads of state and royal princesses, movie stars and reputed artists, leading sports figures and many other distinguished names have joined the long list of men and women who have placed their trust in the brand with the Winged Hourglass.
Longines always strives for elegance in design and technological innovation. It was the first to use automatic timekeeping for the Federal Gymnastics, at Basel in 1912. Today, Longines remains a widely recognized name in sport watches and chronographs.
Longines gradually built a special relationship with the world of sport. Present in Athens in 1896, the company has been closely associated with the worldwide development of sport, timing Olympic Games fourteen times, beginning with Oslo in 1952
Longines' mastery of advanced technologies moved it also to approach Formula One racing, an experience that ultimately led to a partnership with Ferrari of Italy.
On 19 February 2001 Longines produced the 30 millionth watch at their factory. In 2002 the brand celebrated the 170th year of the flying hourglass logo.
